We offer free 20-minute consultations for patients considering Invisalign.

Many of us dream of a straighter smile and thanks to advancements in the field of orthodontics, it is possible to resolve crooked teeth even as adults. If you would like to straighten your teeth, there are a number of orthodontic options currently available. Invisalign is a popular choice for individuals who prefer a treatment that is more discreet than traditional metal braces. The treatment generally achieves very good results and is comfortable and convenient. Read on to find out more about Invisalign and the kind of issues it can resolve…

How does it work?

Invisalign works by placing pressure on the teeth, gradually shifting them into new positions. The treatment involves the use of clear plastic aligners, which you will need to wear for two weeks before changing to a new set of aligners. You will need to wear your aligners for around 22 hours a day in order to achieve the best possible results. You may, however, remove your aligners for eating, drinking and cleaning.

The duration of an Invisalign treatment varies from case to case, and the process can take anyway between six months and three years. Your orthodontist will give you an idea of how long your treatment will take once your teeth have been examined and your aesthetic goals have been discussed.

What issues can be resolved?

Invisalign can be used to resolve a number of issues. While it is not suitable for all patients, particularly in very complex orthodontic cases, Invisalign is often an effective choice for individuals with mild misalignment, gaps between the teeth and bite issues. If you would like a generally straighter smile, we encourage you to come in for a consultation so that you can find out more about the treatment and whether it’s suitable for your particular case.

What other options are available?

If Invisalign is not the best treatment for you, there are other options available. When you come in for a consultation, Dr Tan will discuss these alternative treatments with you. Besides Invisalign, we offer traditional metal braces, clear braces, tooth-coloured braces, incognito lingual braces and social six braces. Traditional metal braces are generally an effective treatment for individuals who suffer from more complex orthodontic issues, while clear and tooth-coloured braces are similar, but a little more discreet. Incognito lingual braces are attached to the inside of the teeth, making them virtually invisible; while social six braces are designed to straighten the six most visible teeth. Each of these options has its own set of benefits, which Dr Tan will explain to you if you are looking for a treatment other than Invisalign.
