Braces

Brisbane braces

We encourage you to choose the best braces option to suit your unique lifestyle.

We’ve put all our braces options in one place so you can compare! Dental braces, also known as orthodontic brackets, are common among teenagers and even adults.

Dental braces can be used to:

  • Adjust crooked teeth
  • Adjust misaligned upper and lower jaw
  • Adjust uneven bites, including overbites and under bites

Why you should visit an orthodontist rather than a dentist

While most dentists can provide braces if requested, a specialist, known as an orthodontist, is usually more qualified to decide which braces are the best in a particular situation. All our qualified orthodontists allow their patients time to consider all treatment options prior to choosing a treatment.

An orthodontist has undergone extra university-level training specifically to place orthodontics. That is why it is better for you to visit an orthodontist for all your braces needs. The team at Dream Smiles Orthodontics won’t pressure you into receiving braces, and we will ensure you feel comfortable going ahead with any treatment plan.

We offer a range of braces to suit you, your oral health and your lifestyle:

How old do you have to be to get braces?

Before a child can get braces all their adult teeth must have come through. This can happen between the ages of 8 and 14. However, since everyone is different it is always best to consult with an orthodontist. Any time after all the adult teeth have come through is a good time to consider braces, and it’s important to keep in mind that the earlier you receive treatment the quicker results can be achieved.

Of course, that doesn’t mean adults can’t receive braces. Currently, 20% of all orthodontic patients in Australia and America are adults. With so many different options, from traditional braces to clear braces, more adults feel comfortable in getting their teeth straightened.

Are braces good for your teeth?

Straight teeth are—generally—healthier teeth. This is because straight teeth are:

  • Easier to clean.
  • Less likely to get food particles stuck the same way as crooked teeth.
  • Better for your jaw and bite.
  • Better for your gum health.

Having braces placed by an orthodontist is a good way to ensure the brackets and wires are placed properly and removed without damaging the enamel of your teeth. An orthodontist will know the best place to glue the brackets to your teeth, and provide you with instructions to maintain good oral health during treatment.
