Are you ready to see your future smile using the latest technology in clear braces?
Clear braces are made up of a mixture of clear brackets and wires fixed to the front teeth. The discreet, clear orthodontic treatment is designed so you don’t have to put up with unsightly metal braces and wires throughout the course of your treatment.
How clear braces work
Gentle pressure is applied to your teeth, over time guiding them into the correct position. The same concept behind metal braces still stands: your orthodontist will assess your progress throughout the course of your treatment, gradually tightening the wires as necessary to continue your smiles progress.
The benefits of clear braces
Clear braces are discreet as they are tooth-coloured and unwarranted attention is not directed toward your teeth. Due to the transparent nature of this system, there is also less concern surrounding the idea of prolonged wear (if required) of clear braces, meaning there will be less pressure to remove them sooner for aesthetic reasons. Clear braces are also considered more affordable than Invisalign for many patients, allowing patients the best of both worlds: affordability and discretion.
Do braces hurt?
If your braces are fitted correctly they should not hurt when applied. However, for the first few days after your wires get tightened you may feel minor sensitivity or discomfort. As your teeth comply with the pressure applied and shift into their new position, discomfort will lessen. If discomfort is affecting daily activities, over the counter pain medication may be recommended.
What is the maintenance for clear braces?
While living with your braces, brushing is more important than ever. You will need to pay close attention to the area between the braces and the gums as this becomes a hard to reach area. For best results, place your brush horizontally and angle down so you can get in between the wires.
Flossing twice a day as per usual is also recommended. Sugary foods should be avoided between meal times, though at meal times this is not as critical.
What can’t I eat with braces?
Any foods that are overly sweet or sticky should be cut out of your diet (minties, fantails, red skins, caramel) as these can damage your braces. Similarly, foods such as raw carrots, apples and tougher cuts of meat should be cut into small pieces and chewed using your back teeth as they can also cause damage.
Wearing your retainer after braces
Once your treatment is completed, you will be required to wear a retainer. Your orthodontist will discuss with you your options regarding a fixed retainer or a removable retainer, and help you make an informed decision on which will be more suitable for you. A retainer must be worn after you have completed your treatment with braces otherwise you risk your teeth re-shifting back into their original position.
