If you are interested in straightening your teeth or repairing an alignment issue, there are a number of treatment options available.
Here’s what you need to know about the types of braces on offer…
What options are available?
At Dream Smiles, there are a number of options available for patients looking to straighten their teeth and correct alignment issues. The type of treatment recommended for you will depend on your specific needs and expectations. Braces can be used for a variety of reasons, including to adjust crooked teeth, repair misalignment in the upper and lower jaw, and adjust uneven bites, including overbites and underbites. We have the following options available:
Traditional metal braces
Thanks to new technology and advancements in modern orthodontics, traditional braces are less bulky and visible than before. For this reason, traditional braces are gaining popularity with adults who want to correct crooked teeth, as well as gaps between teeth, crowding, overbites, underbites and crossbites. Braces make use of brackets and wires, which are fixed to the front of the teeth and exert gentle pressure, gradually moving them into the correct position.
While some adults prefer to avoid metal braces for cosmetic reasons, they are a reliable and effective treatment method. They do not stain easily and are a good choice for patients with severely crooked teeth and alignment issues.
Social six braces
Ideal for adults who would like to correct minor orthodontic issues, social six braces are cosmetic braces that are used to straighten only the teeth that are visible when you smile. The treatment is quick and effective — you can expect to wear the braces for just three to six months. The braces can be used to treat both the upper and lower teeth and are specially designed so that the brackets are attached to the teeth with just one wire, making them comfortable.
Clear braces are made from clear brackets and wires, which are fixed to the front of the teeth. They are a discreet option for adults who don’t want to deal with bulky metal braces and wires. Clear braces work by gently applying pressure to the teeth, gradually moving them into new positions. Your orthodontist will do regular check-ups to assess the progress of your treatment, and tighten the wires as and when it is necessary. Because the braces match the colour of your teeth, they do not draw unwanted attention while you undergo orthodontic treatment.
Tooth Coloured Braces
For a virtually invisible treatment, tooth coloured braces are a great alternative to traditional metal braces. Made from a ceramic material, tooth coloured fixed brackets are discreet, with the added benefits of being extremely durable and comfortable. If you choose, the braces can be made completely white, which means that every component, from the brackets to the wire arches and non-staining ligature wires will all match your teeth. Braces that are designed to match the colour of your teeth also make your smile look whiter, as there is no contrast with metal materials.
Incognito Lingual Braces
Incognito lingual braces are attached to the inside of your teeth, which means that they are not visible when you smile. They are almost completely hidden behind your teeth and are comfortable to wear. Incognito lingual braces are suitable for the correction of bite problems and alignment issues and can give the same results as traditional metal braces. Because the braces are fixed to your teeth, the treatment is generally very efficient. As with traditional braces, lingual braces make use of brackets and wires to gradually straighten your teeth over time.
